A Concise Dictionary of Middle English

Synopsis

A Concise Dictionary of Middle English is co-authored by REV. A. L. MAYHEW of Oxford and REV. WALTER W. SKEAT of Cambridge University. Middle English describes dialects of English Language roughly during the period 12th and 15th Century.  As mentioned in the preface of the book by Prof. Skeat, that undoubtedly Dr. Mätzner’s Dictionary of Middle English must the best, however it will take many years to complete, as it is now ended with the letter “H” only.  While this edition differs from Stratmann‟s Dictionary, in which the words from French origin was largely ignored, while in this edition special attention is given for words of French origin.
