Synopsis

Anabasis is historical text on written by Xenophon, a Greek soldier, historian and disciple of Socrates.

Anabasis is a Greek term meaning an expedition from coastline to interior of a country, while katabasis is the vice versa of Anabasis. Anabasis is a historical account of a professional soldier who led Ten thousand army men against the Persian king, after unexpected killing in the battlefield of their chief Cyrus the Younger, who fought against his elder brother and the Prince of Persia Artaxerxes II. The professional soldier is none other than the author himself, who was elected as the leader of Ten Thousand army men, and lead the return march from interior Babylon to the Black sea coastline.
