A sequel to Anne of Green Gables, this book narrates the protagonist Anne Shirley’s life as a teacher at Avonlea school. The story reveals many incidents to glorify Anne’s character. Davy and Dora, the children of Marilla's third cousin has to be taken care after the death of their mother. Anne and Marilla cares them as a temporary arrangement, but they are so much attached to the little girls and cannot live without them. Anne is relived from the pain of losing them, when girls’ uncle postpones his arrival and eventually dies.
Paul Irving, one of Anne’s pupils is staying with his grandmother and his father is a widower. Anne helps his father to reunite with a sweet but lonely lady, who had been engaged with him 25 years back. Anne meets the delighted and troubled moments of being a school teacher, and not all her plans succeed. The novel ends up Anne’s exit from the School and moves to another city to continue her higher studies.
