Philippine Folk Tales is compiled by Mabel Cook Cole, an anthropologist, who was fortunate enough to stay with wild tribes of Philippines. She had collected the stories from various tribes especially from the major tribal groups such as Tinguian, Igorot, Mindanao, Moro, and Christian. There are vast different in myths and cultures within those tribes.
The stories are segregated by five chapters based on the tribal group and about fifty stories are presented in this book. Some of the notable stories are The Story of Dumalawi, The Story of Kanag, The Sun and the Moon, The Tree with the Agate Beads, Lumawig on Earth, Bulanawan and Aguio, How Children Became Monkeys, The White Squash, The Hawk and the Hen and The Battle of the Crabs.
