The Cask of Amontillado is a mystery story of the narrator who buried his friend alive as revenge against his insult by him. This short horror story is written by the American mystery writer Edgar Allan Poe, who is known as the inventor of detective fiction writings. Among his many mystery short stories notable include The Black Cat, The Gold-Bug, The Imp of the Perverse, and The Murders in Rue Morgue.
Like many short stories of the author, The Cask of Amontillado is narrated from the murderer’s point of view in which the narrator Montresor tells the day of his revenge against his friend Fortunato. On the eventful day Montresor takes his friend to a carnival and makes him drunk. He later ties him in the chains and buries him alive. The author however does not narrate how he was insulted by the victim, which made the protagonist to take such deadly revenge against his friend.
