The Fairy Book is a wonderful collection of popular fairy tales written by Perrault, Madame d'Aulnois, and Grimm. This collection is compiled by the English novelist Dinah Maria Craik, whose numerous writings in the forms of sketches, tales, and poems include The Man in Green, The Emigrant's Wives. A Passage from Real Life, Great and Little Heroines, A Meditation for the Times, An Island of the Blest, and England's Welcome to American Genius.
The author has specifically mentioned in the preface that in contrast to the fairy world characters, in real life neither all beautiful people are good nor all ugly people are wicked. Also unlike in real life, the fairy tales have always casted the elder sister ungenerous and step mother as cruel. The young minds should not be harmed by reading such characters in the fairy tales.
