The Golden Maiden and other stories is a collection of Armenian fairy and folk tales compiled and re-told by the Armenian folk-lorist A. G. Seklemian. Like folk tales from many other countries, this is also a collection of tales which do not have documented evidence of origins, but these stories were told by the country peasants of Armenia for centuries. The author mentions in his introductory note about the Armenian history, the culture and antiquity of it. He recalls his childhood and mentions just like the children of his age, he is very fond of hearing stories. However there were no books and other mediums to read stories, and he heard the stories narrated by his two grandmothers and many aunts.
