The Grim House

Synopsis

The Grim House is a children’s novel written by the English writer Mary Louisa Molesworth. She also wrote under pseudonym like Mrs. Molesworth, Ennis Graham and M.L.S. Molesworth. While most of her works are children literature, she also wrote the novel Lover and Husband and Cicely for the adult readers and was published under her pseudonym Ennis Graham.

She filled the gap of writing for Children who were too old to read fairy tales and too young to read adult works. Most of her works were targeting the would-be-mothers girls of Victorian era which emphasized notions of duty and self-sacrifice. She has also written supernatural fiction works such as Four Ghost Stories, Summer Stories for Boys and Girls, and Uncanny Stories. Her masterpiece The Carved Lions earned her the name of “The Jane Austen of the nursery” among her other notable works such as Tell Me a Story, The Cuckoo Clock, The Tapestry Room, and A Christmas Child.
