The Mysterious Island is a science fiction novel written by the French novelist Jules Verne, and the story has secondary characters from his earlier pirate fiction works of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and In Search of the Castaways.
During the civil war five union soldiers who were captives in the rebellion prison escapes by hijacking a balloon. The five characters are the protagonist Cyrus Smith, a former slave Nebuchadnezzar, a sailor Bonadventure Pencroff, an adopted boy of Cyrus Harbert Brown, and a dog Top. They fall from the balloon however land safely in an unknown volcanic Island, 1600 miles from New Zealand. Cyrus names it as Lincoln Island to honor the American President.
Cyrus with his brilliance and helped by others build a Granite house and ship. They find a rescue message thrown away in a bottle written by Tom Ayrton, a character of another novel who is struck up nearby a Tabor Island. Cyrus and team sail away in their ship to rescue Tom without knowing he was a pirate and will be using the Lincoln Island for his hideout.
However after reaching Lincoln Island, clash broke up between Tom and Cyrus team seriously injuring one of the Cyrus group members. A day after the Tom’s team were found dead mysteriously without any wounds and their ship was exploded. Later it is revealed that Lincoln Island was the hideout of Captain Nemo, the hero of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Captain Nemo only killed the Tom and other pirates with his electric gun, which did not show any wounds. On his deathbed he reveals to Cyrus about his identity that he was Dakkar, the Prince of Bundelkund, an independent country which was destroyed by the failed Indian Rebellion of 1857.
Captain Nemo dies in the Island, and the Island get destroyed after a volcanic eruption. The protagonists stranded in the remaining piece of Lincoln were rescued by ship Duncan, which originally came to rescue the pirates of Tom and others.
