Though they are being brothers, Alfred is mischievous and cunning boy who is not giving his knife to be used by Samuels to cut notches to play Robinson Crusoe. In an attempt to deny it from his brother he hides his knife and lies to his aunt that he lost the knife. The rest of the story is narrated with a moral of sin brings sorrow and we cannot hide anything from God.
