The Potato Child and Others

Synopsis

The Potato Child & Other stories are a juvenile fiction stories written by Lucia Prudence Hall Woodbury. This Christmas story book contains three stories The potato child, A story that never ends, and A Nazareth Christmas.

The Potato Child narrates the story of Elsie, a little girl who had been hired as a maid by Miss Amanda, a well-known dress maker in the city. Amanda neither loved her little maid too much nor cursed her. However Elsie was always looking for someone to love and was asking a doll from Amanda. Amanda shouted at her and ruled out buying any doll for her.

One day while searching vegetables for cooking, Elsie found a potato which looked like a face of a doll. From the day onwards, she started treating the potato like a child and calls it as my potato-child. Unfortunately one day, the potato child was missing from her room and her search for it gone in vain. The rest of story is narrated how the little Elsie win’s Amanda’s heart with her true character of love.
