The Red Room is a gothic fiction written as a short story by H. G. Wells, an English novelist known as “The Father Of Science Fiction” for his works such as The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man and The Time Machine.
The narrator bravely announces to an elderly couple working as caretakers of a house, that he has never seen a ghost and is not easily frightened. Another old man appearing in front of them and gives candles to the narrator and ask him to light the candles in a haunted room. He goes to the room and lights the candle and also opens the fire. He felt the light was not enough and brings ten more candle and light them. He finds himself in comfort while sitting in a chair near the fire.
At midnight suddenly some of the candles go dark. He relights them, but some other candles go dark. He tries to light them using the fire, it also extinguished. Now he is nervously standing in the room without any light. Out of fear he runs towards the door, but knocked in his forehead by the door and fell over the bed. He wakes up in the morning and announces the room is haunted.
