The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin is a children’s picture book, written and illustrated by the English author Beatrix Potter, remembered for her picture books portraying animals as protagonists. She achieved celebrity status after publishing The Tale of Peter Rabbit followed by a series of books such as The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, The Tailor of Gloucester, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny and The Tale of Two Bad Mice.
The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin narrates the story of mischievous squirrel named Nutkin, who annoys an owl, named Old Brown with his silly riddles, become his captive and narrowly escapes. Nutkin with his siblings and cousins sails to an Island called Owl Island for nut-collecting. They present a gift to the owl Old Brown to allow them to do nut-collection. The kindhearted Old Brown let them collect their nuts, however annoyed by Nutkin’s silly riddle songs. Though Old Brown ignores Nutkin’s sing-song, he continues to do the same every day. After six days passed, Old Brown lost his patience and tried to skin him alive. After losing most of his tail, Nutkin escapes narrowly from Old Brown and then after he never sing riddles.
