Synopsis

The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, a play written by Christopher Marlowe was published after the death of the Author. Christopher Marlowe , who was born on the same year of Shakespeare’s birth and influenced him greatly and rose to a prominent playwright. He died on mysterious circumstances, killed by Ingram Frize, when he was just 29 years old.

The play is about a man of academic excellence who sells his soul to the devil for the power and knowledge. Doctor Faustus, a well-known scholar, who has pinnacled academic excellence, is in quest for new form of knowledge other than Logic, Medicine, Law and religion. His friends suggest him about black magic, which does not fall with any of the above professions. Passionate to it, he practices black magic and gains supernatural powers. The rest of the play narrates, how he gains unnatural powers by exchanging his own soul and ultimately falls victim of his own gains.
