Dombey and Son

Synopsis

Dombey and Son is a novel by Charles Dickens titled as Dealings with the Firm of Dombey and Son: Wholesale, Retail and for Exportation.  Shipping company owner  Paul Dombey is fond of boy child for inheriting his business. His expectations were not met, when her daughter Florence was born as first child. He does not show any sign of love towards her, perhaps started hating her. He was rejoiced while his son was born and naming him by his own. The death of his wife after giving birth to his son leads more trouble to him as Paul is sickly. He starts blaming Florence for not taking care of her brother though she loves her brother a lot. In the successive incidents Paul does not improve his health and dies soon. Dombey gettting himself into more troubles with his second marriage and thought he was sidelined by Florence and her stepmother. Florence runsaway from home, when her daughter fires her lover who happened to be an employee of their firm.  The novel ends up Dombey losing all his wealth and finding shelter with Florence.
