In the Days of the Comet is a work of science fiction by Wells. William Leadford believes the society is not in favor of majority percentage of people. Falling in love with the gardener's daughter Nettie Stuart, his romance comes to an end sooner than expected. While Nettie accepts a proposal from wealthy Edward, William takes revenge and plans to shoot both. On the day of execution of his plan, a comet hit the earth and releases a gas which makes everyone to fall asleep. While William awakes, he found himself as a new man and his mind was fully occupied with love and peace. He felt ashamed of his plans of revenge and soon become a true friend of Nettie and Edward. He marries Anna who was taking care of his ill mother.
